Sometimes the weight of life can seem heavy. You can either be crushed by it or learn how to carry the load. In the fall of 2016, I was traveling non-stop for my work with yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. At now almost 100 years old, she shows us how to live with vitality regardless of age. Dancing Light, the book we co-wrote (along with my mom Janie Sykes-Kennedy) won ten awards, and then Tao and I were featured in Athleta’s Power of She campaign. It’s been an exciting time. However, I’ve been experiencing a very strange dichotomy. In between amplifying Tao’s light, I have been fighting extreme darkness in the sunny state of Florida.
July 15, 2016–I was delighted to make another cameo in a news piece with 97-year-old yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch, this time with ABC News online. For the last few years, as I was co-authoring Tao’s autobiography, I’ve traveled with her moderating conversations and assisting in yoga workshops. The pictures in this news piece are from our time in Jamaica as we were finishing Dancing Light.
I had the most delightful encounters this week as a result of my recent trip to Montenegro thanks to new friend Ari Seth Cohen. His book, Advanced Style, has spurned a community of glamorous women who are 70 years old and above. One of these women I met is 95-year-old Ilona Royce-Smithkin. With red hair and red eyelashes she created, she is a burst of color and energy.
THE BUZZ: Dancing, yogis, delicious Indian food and yoga master Tao Porchon-Lynch. That’s ALWAYS a good party! On Sunday, August 9th, 2015, my mom and I attended Tao’s 97th Birthday bash at the wonderful Taj Palace Restaurant in White Plains, NY.
With warm waters, fresh fruits, friendly people and (nearly) perfect weather, the island of Jamaica is a slice of paradise. That was the setting for our writing retreat for 96-year-old Tao Porchon-Lynch’s upcoming inspirational memoir, Dancing Light: The Spiritual Side of Being Through the Eyes of a Modern Yoga Master. Check out the pictures from the December trip and then join Tao for a retreat in Jamaica from May 4th – 10th!!
