INSPIRATION: Just like a loaf of bread that’s been left out too long, life can sometimes seem stale if we let routine take over. We get comfortable with what is and ignore what could be. Being present is important — it’s the foundation of Power Living and experiencing the special moments in life. However, actively claiming your future is key to growth. Balancing the two modes is the trick.
Have you ever made a New Year’s resolution only to break it within weeks? It’s been said that about 40 to 45 percent of American adults set at least one resolution. However, by February the majority of us have given up. Is it a useless tradition? Historian Bill Petro says we can thank Roman statesman Julius Caesar for starting New Year’s resolutions on January 1st. Unfortunately, January 1st is not the best day to make resolutions if you want them to stick…
IMPRESSIONS: I was walking down this path and it reminded me of the path of life. Life is about change and growth. There will always be rocks on the road – some bigger than others. Instead of being obstacles, they may actually be stepping stones. Although we may not see the path, there is one. We simply have to look a little closer, be patient, and understand that change happens step by step.
THE BUZZ: From September 21st through 23rd, 2012, I attended the Women & Power Conference at Omega’s Rhinebeck, NY campus. It was a gathering of dynamic women from various sectors – from playwright Eve Ensler and actress Sally Field to media powerhouse Pat Mitchell and Planned Parenthood Federation President Cecile Richards. I was super impressed by Majora Carter’s presentation of her work on sustainable development in the Bronx. I knew of her work but to hear her walk through it was wonderful.
