As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “We may have all come on different ships but we’re in the same boat now.”
How much do you embrace humanity? With the debates about integrating refugees and immigrants in various countries, it’s easy to forget that we are one human race renting space on this grand planet Earth. Despite physical or cultural variations, as humans we are genetically similar. In fact, scientists conclude from DNA analysis that all humans are 99.9% identical. The sages from many ancient traditions emphasize our interconnectedness–that we are all expressions of a Greater Intelligence, drops in a vast cosmic ocean. Instead of fighting the waves looking for differences, let’s row together. Move in the direction of peace by being compassionate in your interactions and mindful of our shared resources. Actively look for ways to turn what appears to be diversity into unity and understanding. We know how to come together in times of crisis such as after the 9/11 attacks in the United States. Let’s not wait for tragedy to recognize and demonstrate our humanity. Seek common ground and strive to create a world where every member of our collective family can thrive and live fulfilled lives.
Until next time, remember–it’s your divine life, live it to the fullest. The power is in your hands!
